FUNdamentals Program

If your daughter wants to play hockey, we are the place for her! We have numerous girls stepping on the ice for the first time in our program as well as girls who have considerable experience for their age. Our program is divided into two, allowing for the stronger players, typically the 6-year olds who are in their second year with us, to learn together and progress as they can. The other hour, while the skill is greatly varied, is a great fit for a first time hockey player. On day 1 we will teach the girls how to stand, get up from falling, etc., and really focus on skating for the first few sessions to try and have most of the players strong(er) on their skates before we introduce a lot of pucks.

The program is open to girls born in 2011 and 2012.

Program Specifics

Our FUNdamental schedule runs from the beginning of October to the end of March (approximately 25 weeks) with weekly Saturday afternoon ice times. In December, we add an additional rotating hour where all of our girls play mini-games, with the ice divided into 3 games. Therefore, from December to March, all the girls are on the ice 2 hours a week. FUNdamentals registration is $425 for the season. We do not have additional costs on top of this, besides of course your daughters equipment!

Required Equipment

If your child does not have all the equipment listed below they will not be permitted on the ice.

House League Program

NGHA runs an internal house league program. Each team plays approximately 20 games. Ice is typically on the weekends - practice on Saturday and game on Sunday with a large portion of the ice at Carleton University and Ottawa University Ice facilities. The season ends with a tournament style playoff weekend. If playing house league you can expect to attend 2-4 tournaments with some being out of town. Your registration fee covers a majority of your NGHA provided practice ice. On top of the registration fee there are team fees which cover practice ice, tournaments, goalie training and other team expenses. Team fees typically are between $250 - $350.

Development Stream (DS)

Development Stream (DS) is a subset of the House League Programme, offering an enhanced opportunity for NGHA House League players who are looking for more development and an option to play more hockey with the potential to stream toward competitive hockey in the future. It is also ideal for House players that are not ready to make the commitment of playing competitive hockey, but are looking for more than the House program offers.

The NGHA anticipates DS teams at the Novice, Atom, Pee Wee and Bantam levels. DS teams are permitted to play in a maximum of 3 tournaments and 8 exhibition games against other DS teams. The teams will practice on a regular basis and operate separately from the house teams. There are no league games for DS.

Players that play on a DS team must also fully participate with their current NGHA house league team as the players house team is the first priority.

Parents are expected to pay approx. $500 for team fees for a DS season. Tournaments are outside of the team budget, so players participating in the tournaments are responsible for their share of the entry fees. Any additional expenses are also the participant's responsibility (hotels, food etc.). The cost for the tryout is $25.00 and will be payable when registering. Evaluations/Tryouts for DS will take place at the beginning of November and an information night for all those interested will be held beginning of November. Please check the NGHA website for updates on exact dates.
