Toni Guimaraes Bursary
Toni Guimaraes was a dedicated husband and father, a passionate hockey fan and a proud member of the Nepean Wildcats family. Toni passed away in September 2016 and this bursary has been created to recognize the characteristics and values that were important to him and provide financial support for NGHA players pursuing post-secondary education.
Toni's personal story is one of determination and overcoming hurdles to achieve success. Toni's passion for everything in life was felt by friends, family and colleagues and this bursary is being awarded to individuals who exhibit those same traits. The bursary is in recognition of determination on and off the ice, positive team spirit and academic effort. The Guimaraes and Thom families together will offer two deserving NGHA players a bursary of $1,000 each toward their undergraduate studies.
1) Current member in good standing with the NGHA and for a minimum of 3 years
2) Applying to a recognized post-secondary institution as a full time student in 2018
3) Positive contributor to school life and hockey life
4) Volunteer contribution
5) Financial need for post-secondary education
Administration of Bursaries:
All applications will be provided to the selection committee who will select the successful candidates based on the stated qualifications. The selection committee will be chosen by the NGHA Executive comprised of at least four members, one of whom will be from outside the organization. The number of bursaries may vary annually. All selections will be final.
Funding will be forwarded to the successful applicant(s) after proof of enrolment has been received. The bursary will be made out to the applicant’s chosen institution.
The closing date for applications is April 30, 2018. All applications received shall be held in strict confidence. All applications and supporting letters become the property of the NGHA.
How to apply:
Complete the Bursary Application (.doc), accompanied by:
a) An email or letter from the applicant’s current or past hockey coach
b) A copy of the applicant's latest school report card
c) A list of the applicant's volunteer hours as required by the applicant's school
d) A personal letter outlining your community involvement, life goals, your approach to the sport and the impact NGHA has had on you
e) Details surrounding the applicant's financial need
