Les Banks Bursary 2023


This bursary award is in honour of Les Banks who dedicated many years of service to the NGHA at both the team and executive levels.   Les Banks served on the NGHA executive in various positions for more than 10 years and was always ready to help out in any way he could whenever work needed to get done.  Les has also been recognized in the community for his extensive volunteering efforts.

Purpose

The NGHA wishes to recognize a graduating player who is advancing to college or university to pursue their academics. A bursary of up to $2000 will be awarded to the successful applicant who must have been a registered U18 competitive or house league player in the 2022-23 season and who best exemplifies outstanding volunteerism, community participation and leadership.

Eligibility 

To be eligible for this bursary, you must have:

  1. played for a U18 NGHA team in the 2022-23 season and be a current member in good standing;
  2. played in the NGHA for your entire hockey career;
  3. been accepted to and will be attending a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution as a full-time student in 2023-24
  4. submitted a complete application with all required documents by April 30, 2023.

Please note: your application will not be considered if it is late.

Administration of Bursaries

All applications will be submitted to the Bursary Administrator who will anonymize the applications and forward to the President and Les Banks for review.
Funding will be forwarded by the NGHA Treasurer to the relevant Canadian post-secondary institution after proof of enrolment has been received from the recipient. Recipients do not receive the bursary funds directly.

 

Application Information

The closing date for applications is April 30, 2023. All applications received shall be held in the strictest confidence and will be anonymized by the Bursary Administrator prior to being forwarded to the Committee for review.

How to Apply

Submit by email to nghahldirector1@gmail.com by April 30, 2023:

  1. your name and the number of years you've played in the NGHA
  2. a personal letter that tells how you embody the characteristics and qualities lived by and seen in Les.  We are  not asking for a minimum number of volunteer hours but rather your personal story about how your volunteerism and giving back to the community make you a good candidate.  It is up to you to demonstrate that you are deserving of the bursary.
