How to be a Good Teammate
Here's a document you should share with your players
Find a time to present this document to your team. Explain its purpose and value.
Distribute a hard copy to each player and ask them to take it home and read it.
Review one point prior to each subsequent practice until all have been covered. Ensure you allow 10 minutes or how ever long you feel you need for this exercise to encourage open discussion.
Following this process should lead to enhanced learning as well as providing the players an opportunity to vest in the exercise. If they feel there is anything missing, you can add it. If you do, I would love to hear what might be absent and perhaps add it to the document.
I would also encourage you to share this with your parents as they too can help their child become a great teammate.
Looking for a cool way to motivate your team? See the below from Mike Speer and his teams - they use this as a pre-game/pre-practice go to to ensure all players on the same page
Why I Play Hockey
"Why I Play Hockey" is a document used from Novice through to Pee Wee. We have delivered it to players around the half way mark of the season to measure where they were and what they wanted. We did not ask them to place their names on the document as we wanted to ensure they were not nervous about being honest. However, there are methods you can use to identify players responses which we sometimes did to ensure we could do our best to meet those individual player needs.
Wildcat Player Profile
"Wildcats Player Profile", is better suited for players Bantam and older. Players should put their name to this document. It provides a basis for discussion with the player if desired. This can be introduced anytime but might be most effective after about a third of the season has passed.
10 Things that Require No Talent Poster
Thank to Karla Clarke for this! She made her own 8x10 and added the Wildcat and had them laminated for the Girls to put up on their bedroom wall. A great way to remind them of the items they can control on the ice!
The NGHA is looking for volunteers to help support the growth and operations of our Associations. We always have a need for dedicated volunteers who are able to donate their time and skills to help make our association the best in the region.
