PCBB

We are excited to be the head coaches of the Nepean Wildcats Peewee Competitive BB team for the 2019/2020 season. We each have two daughters, and have been part of coaching with them for the past 8 years or more. Our goal with our season plan, is to make your daughter a better athlete by helping her to understand the importance of commitment, work ethic, experiencing the value of team work, and pushing herself outside of her comfort zone.

Philosophy

Our coaching philosophy at the Peewee level will be to stress that sport is supposed to be fun. Our successes will be measured by keeping the fun in learning, which will translate to significant player development.

We will focus on how communication is key to success on the ice. We will focus on basic/fundamental skill development (skating, passing, and shooting) at every practice, but will disguise the monotony of learning within our drills. We will try to pull the competitive spirit out of the girls at every game/practice.

This being the competitive level, we will also teach positional and team play. We will also touch on special teams/systems and other situational play as the season progresses.

The kids’ enjoyment will be the primary focus by teaching players to love the process of development and learning, not just the result. We will not be scoreboard focused; we will have the girls buy into trusting the process and staying focused on goals we set as a team.

o Fair ice time: EACH player will be given a chance to develop in all situations.
o Build work ethic and character: players will be challenged to work hard and do drills with high intensity. Players will be encouraged to go slightly out of their comfort zones to improve.
o Practice/Play with a purpose: “Practice like you Play and Play like you Practice” will be our team motto. We will get the team to understand and buy into this. Attention to detail will be evident in our practices.
o Decision making/Creativity: Help develop Hockey IQ. Get kids to learn how to think under pressure and make decisions on their own based on the play in front of them, not just based on repetition. Be creative, make hockey plays...no robots.
o Team play: No individuals. We will all be in the boat....and we will all be rowing the same way. One of the best coaches of all time said “It is amazing how much can be accomplished if no one cares who gets the credit.” ― John Wooden

We will put full commitment into every event for this team. Our expectation is to get the same commitment from all families in return. Our players will understand that success comes from commitment, hard work, and winning each shift!

Tournaments

We will be looking to play in approximately 5-6 tournaments this season, with our season goal to qualify for Provincials.
Projection :
Markham Starsfest or Oshawa or Oakville Sept 2019
Etobicoke Pink the Rink Oct 2019
Smiths Falls Nov 2019
Kanata Tourney Nov 2019
Nepean DIFD Feb 2020
Provincials Apr 2020

Commitment

Parental involvement in the team events, organizational responsibilities and fundraising activities will be very important to make this a successful season. Unfortunately, the competitive level comes at a higher cost; we will therefore need your help in order to achieve our goals. We anticipate team fees to be approx. $1850.00/player. Ice time and any added team events will be approx. 4-5 times/week.
We are looking forward to meeting everyone. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
