All NGHA teams must have an Emergency Action Plan (EAP) in place to deal with serious health emergencies that occur on the ice or in the arena. Trainers play a pivotal role in responding to emergencies, as they are almost always the first person to attend to an injured player or staff member. However, they need assistance in responding to an emergency quickly and safely.
An Emergency Action Plan sets out the roles and responsibilities of specific members of the team staff and parent group who are designated assist the trainer in responding to an emergency. The coach, manager and trainer are required to initiate a meeting at the beginning of the season to ensure they have the volunteers required for their Emergency Action Plan.
